Ganesh Idols Immersion: GHMC Files Review Petition In Telangana High Court

 - Sakshi Post

HYDERABAD: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation(GHMC) on Monday has filed a review petition in the Telangana High Court against the immersion of Ganesh idols in the Hussain Sagar lake. The GHMC  has asked the High Court to reconsider its judgment and lift the ban on immersing PoP idols in the lake and in other water bodies.

The GHMC has requested the Court to allow the immersion to take place from the Tank Band part of the lake. The GHMC has appealed for amendments to the orders for the construction of a rubber dam at Hussain Sagar. It also assured the High Court that the waste materials and idols would be removed within 24 hours after immersion.

It may be recollected that the Telangana government on Sunday said it would file a review petition in the High Court over its ruling against immersion of Ganesh idols made of Plaster of Paris (PoP) in lakes here.

Minister for Animal Husbandry Talasani Srinivas Yadav stated that the government has decided to file a review petition in the High Court over the Court's order and given assurance that the lake will be cleaned within 48 hours of immersion. The petition was filed at the behest of the Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi (BGUS), which is overseeing Ganpati celebrations in the city.

On September 9, a bench comprising acting Chief Justice M S Ramachandra Rao and Justice T Vinod Kumar directed the state government not to allow immersion of Ganesh idols made of PoP in Hussain Sagar Lake and other water bodies in the state capital.
